Snow
December 31, 2006
Skyler still does not like snow. He'll go outside, but he won't step in it or walk in it or touch it. Jordan built an igloo yesterday and we did get Skyler to go inside of it. I had to carry him over to it though, because heaven forbid he walk on the snow.
But today, we had a breakthrough, he went into the igloo with Jordan and walked over to it all by himself! He would stand up in it after he got out though and Jordan kind of had to push him so that he could climb out and then pick Skyler up to carry him to the patio.
Reality Check

Most of the things I write about on here show Skyler's cute and sweet side. Therefore, if you have no experience whatsoever with young children (or you are his grandma) you may think he is completely sweet and adorable all of the time. Not so. Skyler has always needed much attention from his mom, and lately he's brought that to a new level. It's like he must always have me within two feet of him. We have good days - he'll give me some space if I pop in a video- and bad days - he must maintain physical contact with me at all times- and of course everything in between. It's not all bad, right now he's sitting on my lap putting together a puzzle/knocking everything off the computer desk. But he's really into climbing all over me lately. Which involves lots of involuntary kicking, hitting, and pinching of places I'd just rather he stay away from. And making dinner is fun when he thinks since he needs to hang on me anyway, he might as well help in every way possible. He's so 'helpful' now that sometimes it's just better I leave chores undone. For example, I think I've written about how he helps me clean the bathroom with his squirt bottle of water and a rag. Well lately he's decided that the toilet makes a better water source. So um, no more cleaning the bathroom with Skyler around.
Bye Bye Crib
January 18, 2007
Two days ago Skyler climbed out of his crib. I put him in at naptime and went downstairs to get his drink, when I got back up, he was sitting in the chair with a big grin on his face. A grin that said, 'that's a fun game, mom, wanna put me back in my crib so I can climb out again?'. The next day at naptime he requested to take a nap on the big pillow on the floor in his room. I let him and covered him with a blanket and gave him some stuffed animals. Ten minutes later, I heard him saying he needed to go to the bathroom. So I went to get him and he was still laying on the pillow. He went to the bathroom and then requested to go back to his nap on the pillow. I covered him up again and left him in his room. 25 minutes after that he was calling out to go to the bathroom again. I went in and he was still on the pillow. He went back in his room after the bathroom break and stayed in there for about 75 minutes total. Towards the end, I could hear that he was playing with toys. Today was the same sort of story, except he wanted to nap on his car mat. But once again he stayed in his room for a little over an hour. I bet he would have stayed longer, but we needed to go run some errands. I actually thought he might have been asleep because I could only hear breathing, no evidence of toys and no talking, but when I opened his door he was awake and showed me the Lego igloo he had been working on. Bedtimes in the crib are still no problem, to our knowledge he hasn't tried to escape, but soon we'll take off the side of his crib to convert it to a toddler bed and begin the search for a real bed for him.
I guess he's been watching too much Bob the Builder...

Yesterday Skyler was running around in circles around one of his toys. When he stopped, I asked him if he was dizzy. "No, I'm Roley, " he said. {Roley and Dizzy are both characters/trucks on Bob the Builder. Dizzy is a cement mixerand Roley is a street roller}
