The Joy of Baseball

This week for joy school we went to a baseball game.  One of the moms was able to get us all suite tickets from her husband's work.  It was lots of fun to have our own little area.  I loved sitting with Skyler and explaining the finer points of the game to him, which he apparently retained as being "the black team tries to hit the ball but the red team can't catch the ball and they score points" or something to that effect.  I think the fact that the teams keep switching from the field to batting confused him.  Jonah loved it, the sights, the sounds and practicing his clapping.  I am lame and forgot my camera, but lucky for me, my friend did not.  You can see a picture here.

A Game of I Spy

Me: I spy with my little eye something green and it's rectangle shaped.
Skyler: No!  It has to be green and have no shape and be a tree!
Me: Okay, I spy something green.
Skyler: Is it a tree?
Me: Yes
Skyler: It's a tree, hooray!

Not like he likes to be in control or anything.

Skyler's Prayer

Today Skyler said the opening prayer in primary. We asked him if he wanted mom or dad to help him, but he said he wanted to do it on his own. Scary, considering he tends to pray for odd things, but he did a great job. He even managed to stay in one spot and not hit anyone during the prayer (if he could do that at home, we'd be thrilled). He said "we're thankful that Jesus died on the crosswire", which I'm guessing is some sort of odd Muffy Crosswire from Arthur meets Jesus thing, but who knows.

Skyler's Sunday Podcast

Skyler is quite a tech savvy little three year old.  He's always talking about his blog and podcasts (he loves to watch the They Might Be Giants Friday Night Family Podcast).  So we decided to let him put together a little "podcast" of his own.  We'd like this to become a regular weekly thing, but we'll see.

Jonah Hits The Double Digits

On Monday, Jonah turned 10 months old. He still mostly uses the army crawl to get around, though he's starting to get up on his knees more and more. He no longer sleeps swaddled! Did we set a record for longest swaddled baby or what? I hear his cousin's trying to steal that though. He likes to eat anything he can pick up on his own, so he eats lots of shredded cheese and random vegetables at dinnertime. He loves applesauce too and once he realizes what it is, he'll actually stop grabbing the spoon and let me feed him. He loves to play peek-a-boo and try and mess up Skyler's duplo train tracks. He likes being outside and going for walks and bike rides in the trailer.

Skyler's New Haircut

I was getting tired of fighting Skyler in order to brush his hair, so I gave him a buzz cut last week (oh how I'm glad he's a boy and I can get away with such things!)

This is what he did when I told him I wanted to take a picture of his haircut

Thoughts

Most of the time my posts serve as a way to show off pictures and tell stories, other times I write things I just don't want to forget. This post is the later.

Today my thoughts have been with the Lamb family, who yesterday lost their little miracle. Kynslee was born in September with a major heart defect and fought a hard fight for almost 7 months. I have known this family since I was in elementary school. They lived in our ward for many years and spent a few years as our neighbors. Kynslee was the daughter of their son, Ben. This family has experienced so much, including the summer before I started high school when their oldest son EJ (who was my age) passed away. I have vivid memories of his funeral and the strength shown by the family in the days, months, and years afterwards. I can't put into words my admiration for this family.

After I heard of her passing, I just wanted to rock my baby. Jonah would have none of that (he's not the cuddly little guy that he once was), but Skyler likes it now. When I took him up to rest time, he actually requested that I sing to him like I sing to Jonah. So I cradled him in my arms and sang. He thought it was funny that I couldn't get through a Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star without crying. I found myself being much more patient with him today, but I also realized that it doesn't matter a whole lot. I can loose my temper with him and be frustrated with him and still love him and appreciate him and not take him for granted all at the same time. I'm human after all. Life is fragile and precious, but I don't need to feel guilty that my children are at times frustrating to me, because at the end of the day they get hugs and kisses and I love them (could that be because they are sleeping?) and I'm grateful.

Oh... My... Gosh

Both of my children are asleep.

That's right, Skyler is asleep. Really, I just saw it with my own two eyes.

Skyler Flies His Kite

I tried posting this a few weeks ago after we went out to fly kites, but it wasn't uploading. I got it to work now, and frankly don't remember exactly what's in it. I'm sure it's adorable though.

Skyler's going for a record

Recently, Skyler must have heard the story from the Book of Mormon about Enos (who prayed all day and night) because after each prayer he says, "was that a long prayer? Did I pray a long time like Enos?" Yes, buddy. Though I imagine Enos was a bit less repetitive. Skyler will be saying the opening prayer in primary in two weeks - that should prove interesting.

Grandmother Would Be Proud

If my grandmother were still alive, I'd send her this
picture and I'm sure she'd smile. Jonah really enjoys playing
the piano, Skyler did too when he was this age,
but I'm much more brilliant (desperate?)
this time around and often stick him in his booster
seat and let the piano entertain him.

Skyler sometimes likes to pull up the bench next to him
for a jam session. I love the look on Skyler's face in this
picture, he's totally into it!

Playing Primary

Yesterday Skyler was pretending he was at primary. We went through the month's article of faith and the scripture (though he thought the scripture was an article of faith and kept asking me, what's the other article of faith until I finally figured out he meant the scripture). Then we had singing time. He gathered up a bunch of pull-ups to be his pictures and was asking me and Jonah (and apparently a bunch of pretend people) what the pictures were of. Then we'd come up and hold the picture (me and several other imaginary, but really in primary, kids like Jacob, Gabriel, and Elijah). then came the fun part, we'd sing. But when Skyler leads the singing it's always anyone's guess as to what the real song is, he just makes up the lines as he goes along and insists we sing with him. I'll have to get a video sometime, it's cute. Well, so long as you're not the one he's forcing to sing!
