A Cute Thing
First some background. Skyler will randomly come up to me, ask for a kiss and a hug and then say bye, and then go to another room, or pretend to unlock the front door and leave. On our Blue's Clues DVD is the episode where Steve goes to college. So this morning, Skyler comes over to me, asks for a kiss and a hug, and then says, "Bye! I'm going to college!"

Underwear
This week I picked up some new underwear for Skyler. He thought it was cool and starting to take it out of the package and put it on while he's sitting in the shopping cart. A lady walks by and Skyler says. "hi, I'm putting on underwear!" Fabulous Skyler. I've reserved this underwear for when Skyler will poop in the toilet and that makes Skyler very mad. He wants to wear it, but not so bad that he'll actually poop in the toilet.

Storytime
This morning we went to storytime at the library. It's called 'Music and Movement' storytime, so not just sitting and listening to stories. Then this afternoon, since Skyler wasn't napping and I was bored, we walked over to the mall to Barnes & Noble for their storytime. Both storytimes involved a coloring activity, and Skyler was more into coloring at Barnes & Noble than at the library, perhaps because they gave him stickers at BN. I had forgotten about the train table at BN. Skyler could've played there all day, I think. I finally lured him away by saying we were going to go down the 'eligater'. Then he threw a fit when it came time to go back into the stroller, far worse than any stroller tantrum he's had before. The train table reminded me last time we were at BN, several months ago. That one only had like three trains to go with the table (this one had tons). I told Skyler it was almost time to go and soon after that a little boy came over to play with the trains, but there weren't any left. Skyler handed one to him and said, "here go", and then we went to go look for for the book we came for. So polite he is.

Helper
Skyler's helping is starting to be a bit more helpful. He really likes to clean things, usually with a wipe. But today I gave him the squirt bottle filled with water and a rag and he 'helped' to clean the bathroom.
Skyler is very insistent that he stand like a big boy while going to the bathroom. He doesn't seem to care that big boys don't take off their shoes, socks, and pants in order to go to the bathroom.

Family Reunion
October 03, 2006
This weekend we went to Ruidoso, NM for a family reunion for Jordan's mom's side. For the most part, Skyler really enjoyed playing with his cousins. He got to take a pony ride and go fishing. He was very accident prone this weekend, he fell off the swing, the slide, a short wall, and the sidewalk.
In other news, he pooped in the toilet for the first time today, and no post nap trip to the laundry room - he not only kept his diaper on, but his pants also!
Naps
October 07, 2006
Skyler is apparently taking a break from naps. He doesn't at all fight going down, he just never falls asleep. But it's been a hard week. He's cranky all morning, won't sleep, then cranky in the afternoon and things just start to get ugly around 4:30. I tried waiting longer before putting him down, but that made no difference. I'm totally okay with him being done with naps, he'll still do a rest time in his crib for the time being so that I can at least eat lunch in peace, and I'm looking forward to not planning my day around his naps anymore.
Then there's the taking off of the diaper. I'm considering lining his crib with newspaper and calling it a litter box. :)
Tennis
October 07, 2006
After Jordan got home from work, we walked over to the tennis courts to play tennis. Skyler had so much fun, he was laughing and smiling the entire time. We only almost hit him once! The secret was to aim for him, then we were sure to miss him seeing as we were a bit rusty.Sunday

Skyler stayed dry all through church! Such a relief since he peed on the floor three weeks ago. We took many trips to the bathroom during sacrament meeting, there's no question that that is what Skyler likes to do when he's bored. We are full of good impressions in this ward since Jordan said he'd teach Elder's Quorum this week and forgot.

Welcome to the Desert
This evening we introduced Skyler to the desert and the mountains. We hiked to a small waterfall with Skyler in the backpack. Skyler walked most of the way back exploring what was around him. He wanted to jump over the creek and climb on the rocks just like Daddy He also got introduced to peeing in a bush, though it was a false alarm both times.

Dad's first week at work
This was Jordan's first week of work. Skyler was very sad that he had to go to work and on Monday morning said he wanted to go to work too. Then on Tuesday morning, he wanted me to go to work. On Tuesday we bought a gift for his friend Jane's birthday. That afternoon he was carrying it around saying, "send present in the mail, Jane live far away". Earlier, I was regretting telling him why we bought it, because he got upset because he wanted to go see Jane. But eventually he understood and it was really sweet watching him carry it around. We've been working on potty training this week. He's doing okay, he's very hit or miss though. Right as I was putting him in bed tonight, he said, "I go potty". So I took him in, his diaper was dry (we'll keep him in diapers at night for awhile) and he went. All this after a day of wetting his pants at first, but then finishing in the toilet. Well, minus the hour and half we were out doing errands, he's way into checking out public restrooms, so he does well when were out of the house. Skyler is way into playing pretend lately. He likes telling me to "do ribbet" and we'll hop around the floor pretending to be frogs. He also sits in boxes and says he's in a boat. Tonight he picked up a duplo briefcase and said he was going to work. We were both sick this week, so we didn't get out to do much. We went grocery shopping and to the park that's close by and to the library also.
